Hot in the wheel tracks of McLaren announcing its six bespoke ‘XP Green’ McLaren Special Operations (MSO) 570GT models earlier this week, the Woking-based supercar maker has now revealed a possible glimpse into its future with the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo car, created exclusively for the new PlayStation 4 Gran Turismo Sport video game, due for release on October 17th 2017.

This extreme GT racing car is said to demonstrate McLaren’s future design thinking, putting the driver at the forefront, with a central driving position, carbon fibre construction, combined with Integrated Active Aero features and a 1,150 bhp hybrid powertrain, using a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre McLaren V8 engine driving the rear wheels, with high output electric motors housed in each of the front wheel ‘pods.’ Game players will be able to call upon maximum power of 1,150 bhp, with 1,275 NM of torque available instantly from launch, thanks to the electric propulsion and all-wheel traction.

McLaren worked in unison with the legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi to develop its extreme Vision GT racer, with this vehicle being the latest in a programme of Vision GTs conceived by a number of car makers, including Alpine, BMW, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Citroen, Subaru, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Fittipaldi, AMG and many others.

While not a prototype for any future McLaren model, and designed for the virtual world and unburdened by production car constraints, the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo showcases the kind of supercar the Woking firm could produce beyond 2013. Gran Turismo players will be able to choose their McLaren from liveries; Performance, Ulterior and Noir.

Gran Turismo Sport is the latest release in the Gran Turismo series for the Sony PlayStation, giving players the opportunity to choose their preferred car from a range of production and concept vehicles, to compete at one of 17 locations, including the Nürburgring 24 Hour circuit, Brands Hatch and other world-class circuits. Designed exclusively for the game, the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo will join ‘real life’ McLaren models, such as the 650S Coupe and 650S GT3.
