Mansory’s Purosangue somehow sounds as bad as it looks

And not only does it look frankly hideous, it has a name that sounds even worse. Honestly, who thought that Pugnator was a good name for a car? It sounds like a word you could use to describe the car itself. So, maybe it is apt.

But, onto details, and let’s try to make this as quick as possible. The Purosangue’s 715PS is now 755PS (555kW) and we’ve gone from 715 to 730Nm (538lb ft) of torque, still using the same 6.5-litre V12 engine.

But of course, changes to the way cars drive has very little to do with what Mansory does. This is car design for shock value, and the Pugnator (good lord, that name) is right at the top of the most jaw-dropping things it has ever made.

Let’s just list the obvious. The front now has an extravagantly expanded bumper, with some side vents at which the Audi RS6 would blush. There’s an aggressive carbon-fibre bonnet, massive side aero additions, aggressive arches front and rear, a rear wing, massive boot lip spoiler, humongous rear bumper and diffuser and quad exhausts. You’re correct, the standard Pursoangue has quad exhausts, so the Pugnator (sigh) now has them diagonally stacked. 

Those exhausts are connected to a new system with a flap control that will make it sound roughly as obnoxious as it looks as it cruises around Kensington. Unfortunately, since no Mansory Pugnator will ever be doing more than 30mph, you’ll have plenty of time to both look upon and hear it. 

This is an “eye-catcher par excellence” – not our words, the words of Mansory itself – and honestly the more you look at it, the more you notice (in horror). Like the air extractors above the front wheels ruining the Purosangue’s rather nice lines, or the strangely shaped lip on the front chin, or how it seems to have three rear wings in one. But we promised to be brief, so let’s move on.

The wheels are now 22 inches on the front and 23 on the rear, and actually seem quite small on what is now an astonishingly large looking machine. Mansory claims to have added “high-performance tyres” for extra precision during “sporty driving” which is something very few Pugnators (wow) will do. But we’re not entirely sure what was wrong with the Pirellis it came on.

Inside, it’s actually quite tame compared to the absolute horror show that’s gone on outside. Or even compared to the astonishing interior unveiled on Mansory’s take on the Ineos Grenadier last week. 

Here we have an explosion of ivory, red and visible carbon. The only real changes that Mansory has done to this car is a fresh Mansory steering wheel complete with a shift light (which is something you could get from Ferrari anyway), seatbelts with the Mansory logo embroidered on, aluminium pedals and Mansory floor mats. The rest, says Mansory, is down to the purchaser's imaginations. Which, let’s be honest, is a terrifying thought. 

To finish, the Pugnator name apparently comes from the Latin for a competitor or contestant. Repugnant is probably closer to a true name.
