The Toyota GR86 may have taken the affordable performance car world by storm in 2021 but, while every review waxed lyrical about them, hidden within the text of each was the fateful phrase: “already sold out in the UK”. The original GR86 sold out within two hours of being confirmed for UK soil.
This makes today a day to celebrate as Toyota has increased the number of GR86s coming to the UK – with prices kicking off from £32,495 or about £2,500 more than you’d have paid two years ago.
How many new GR86s will be available? Not even Toyota knows, although presumably only a sizable number – a few hundred, say – is worthy of a press release. For reference, the last 'batch' numbered in four figures.
The newly available cars will be allocated in chronological order to customers already on the waiting list – if you’re eligible, chances are you’ve already been contacted. No such luck? Well, even if you miss out this time around, Toyota suggests you may get yet another go “should further cars become available”.
Launched in 2021, the GR86 forms the core of the Gazoo-racing line-up that includes the rally-ready GR Yaris and the BMW Z4-based Supra.
