Is the existing Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato not exclusive or special enough for you? Was its £300,000 price when new in 2011 a little bit tame? Would you rather the roof came off it? Fear not. R-Reforged is preparing a rather special run of latterday V12 Vantage Zagatos, as a birthday celebration for Zagato. Meet the V12 Vantage Zagato Heritage twins.
Yes, twins. A hearty seven-figure sum will bag you a pair, one the more familiar coupe and the other, a new Speedster. Just 19 pairs of these twins will be available and these first two prototypes are already spoken for. Congratulations, Andrea and Marella Zagato...
Still curious about what well over double the cost of the original for each individual car gets you? The clue is in the name R-Reforged. A few things have been updated this time around. The essence is still the Zagato design we’re familiar with, albeit 10mm lower, 20mm wider and with new 19-inch wheels.
There’s a new active aero treatment at the back in combination with a new splitter that is claimed to "significantly improve the balance". The body of the new cars is completely new, constructed out of carbon-fibre and yes, it’s available in a completely exposed form. That’ll add 400 hours to the 16-week build…
There are some significant changes going on underneath as well. The 5.9-litre V12 engine gets a power bump, up to a GT12 and V600-beating 608PS. That comes via a new titanium exhaust and a revised aluminium air inlet. You can imagine the soundtrack will be spectacular.
In terms of specification, as you might have guessed, the limits are the imagination of the buyer and on the inside, perhaps the periodic table. Fit, finish and material quality should be second-to-none.
The builds aren’t brand-new as such, they’re based on existing V12 Vantage S platforms. From start to finish, over 500 new components are used in the process of creating these latter-day Zagatos to a better-than brand-new standard. We can only assume that seeing as it’s based on V12 Vantage S donors, that both manual and Sportshift transmissions can be had in these Heritage Zagatos, too.
“The essence of this project was to create a perfect ‘garage’, comprising two desirable and collectable cars; Coupe and Roadster,” says Andrea Zagato.
“Limited to just 19 pairs, a significant number, recalling the year Zagato was formed, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged mark a remarkable milestone for the Milanese atelier. Despite having created over 450 models since our formation, we chose Aston Martin, which has surely been our most prestigious partner over the last 50 years, to mark this celebration. The cooperation with R-Reforged ensured that we could create an instant classic.”
Order a pair of the Heritage Twins and the ownership experience won’t just start on delivery. R-Reforged will provide you with a "stream" of "specially tailored gifts". This starts with a carbon-fibre presentation case, cataloguing details of the spec with scale models. Among these gifts will be "invitations and experiences throughout their ownership". Sounds exciting.
This initial pair of prototypes, belonging to Andrea and Marella Zagato, will first be on display at the Aston Martin St. Gallen dealership in Switzerland until early in the New Year. Then they’ll be off testing, to verify the final suspension calibration, before going on a tour across America and Europe spreading the word of the Heritage Twins. We hope the Zagatos are getting a discount on these demonstrators. Want a pair for yourself? Make it snappy. We don’t think these will be around for long...
