While we got our first look at the new FL5 Honda Civic Type R a little while ago, performance and power figures for this more subtle iteration of Honda’s everyman performance icon have not been forthcoming… until now. Now we know what the latest Type R brings to the table.
As expected, it’s not huge news, as the new Civic Type R brings 320PS (235kW), roughly the same as the outgoing model, though the new K20C1 does sport some upgrades. That power should come a bit more willingly thanks to revised turbo turbine wheel blades. Happily, it should pull harder, given that torque is up from 400Nm (295lb ft) to 420Nm (310lb ft).
Cooling has been improved, as has the gear shift quality with revisions to the mechanism. It’s wider – 25mm up front and 19mm at the rear – with complementing tweaks to the chassis. Combine all this with a lower driving position and new configurable driving dynamics settings and it should prove to be the best Type R yet.
