New Renault Twingo EV previewed in Paris
Renault will showcase its Twingo E-Tech electric prototype on its stand at the Paris Motor Show from the 14th-20th October. The Twingo E-Tech has plenty of cute overtones from the original model and will be a cheap EV with a price tag of less than £20,000 targeted.
The automobile world (excluding the UK because it was never sold here) loved the original Twingo when it was introduced in 1992, complete with vibrant colours to go with its puppy-dog looks.
The new car hopes to capitalise on these memories. Its floating front LEDs offset the bonnet vent, and the monovolume silhouette matches the original’s. And the retro throwbacks continue with the dinky door handles and black rim around the rear windscreen, protruding tail lights and ‘Twingo’ lettering at the centre of the tailgate.
However, while the old car was only three-door, the new model has five-door practicality and a glass roof that should make the interior feel inviting. Expect the interior to be as charming as the outside, with bright colours and basic infotainment.
The new car is being billed as an inner-city specialist; Renault says it’s “designed for city driving without compromises,” so expect it to be highly manoeuvrable, agile, and nippy off the line. To make this happen, the Twingo is likely to get a tiny battery offering a range of around 200 miles.
Expected in 2026, the Renault Twingo E-Tech will join an electric lineup that already includes the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, Renault 4 E-Tech electric, Megane E-tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric.
