Pininfarina Battista Targamerica is a one-off convertible

Pininfarina has been teasing the introduction of its first coach-built one-off for a while. Now, the covers have come off. Meet the Battista Targamerica, a one-off open-air version of its 1,900PS (1,397kW) all-electric hypercar, that’s being introduced to the individual that commissioned its creation a year ago, at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering, during Monterey Car Week.

The changes to the Battista Targamerica beyond its missing roof are more detailed in nature. Obviously the monocoque has been modified to accommodate the roofless capability but as a coach build, there’s a lot more personalisation going on as well.

The silver Argento Liguido Gloss paint with Iconica Blu highlights for instance is a reference to Gianni Agnelli’s specially-built 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider. On the inside we see swathes of tan leather but it’s between the seats that we find perhaps this car’s definitive custom touch: a cigar holder and humidor. Very Monterey. The aluminium and glass case can hold up to three cigars and changes colour with mood lighting based on the drive mode the car is in. The tan leather carries on to the tailored luggage set, that features the Targamerica’s silhouette embossed in stitch.

The name, in case you’re wondering, references both the open roof and where the car is set to spend most of its days. The commissioning customer is a prolific car collector that already has a Battista in his collection. It’s likely the Targamerica won’t venture too far beyond the sun-glazed Californian coast.

Being a Battista owner, at least the buyer will be ready for that 1,900PS hit, if they choose to see what 0-62mph in under two seconds feels like alfresco style. As for top speed? There’s no hard figure, though "over 300kmh (186mph)" has been stated.

The Targamerica joins the B95 Barchetta Gotham at The Quail, which is Pininfarina’s Batman-themed collaboration with Warner Brothers and imagines what a Bruce Wayne-commissioned limited-edition hypercar might look like. We’re not saying the person who commissioned the Battista Targamerica is Batman, but have you seen both of them in the same room? Food for thought…
