Range Rover is getting cosmic with the Range Rover Sport SV, with the Celestial Collection. A product of Range Rover’s plans to double down on customisation and exclusivity, it’s the first so-called ‘collection’ to come from the SV Bespoke design team.
So, what is the Celestial Collection? Take the already fairly lusty (and expensive) Range Rover Sport SV and create a selection of unique colours, inscriptions, finishes, and trims, for five curations in total made in very limited numbers. Named Gaea, Theia, Io, Vega, and Sol, each draw inspiration from ancient mythology and the cosmos with which it’s so often entwined. They’re what Range Rover calls ‘the world’s oldest stories and deepest mysteries.’
“The cosmos is a transcendent theme that crosses boundaries, fascinating and uniting people globally,” said Phoebe Lindsay, Materiality Manager, Range Rover
“The idea of mystery and intrigue from the celestial sky was key – the symbolism you can find throughout the collection draws a deeper meaning. These stories have been carefully considered to reflect the exemplary tastes of our clients.”
If it all sounds a little airy fairy, that’s because it’s supposed to. Gaea is inspired by the Earth, the life giver in Greek mythology – with Green Terre Matte paint, bronze calipers, and silver birch trim inside. It gets its own symbol, too, depicting waves crashing into the land.
Theia is the daughter of Uranus and Gaea and is associated with shimmering light, so a flaked satin grey paint scheme inspired by the moon feels right. As do champagne gold forged wheels.
Io is a curious one. Known for being the most volcanically active body in our solar system, bright colours and extroverted style are a given. Cyllene Gloss is an orange inspired by Io’s lava fields. As well as those record-setting carbon wheels, there’s plenty of carbon trim to complement and on the inside, too, along with the optional ebony and lunar Windsor leather.
Vega has a very blue theme inside and out, inspired by the star in the Lyra constellation. Sol meanwhile is inspired by our own sun, with a yellow gloss exterior and green flashes inspired by the aurora borealis. This contrasts with the blue nebula brake calipers and navy leather. All leather specs are of course exchangeable for a leather-free option.
Very few examples from the Celestial collection will be made, with only select clients being offered the opportunity to purchase. Pricing and exact numbers haven’t been confirmed but we’d be shocked if each didn’t tip over the £200,000 mark.
This abstract ethereality may not appeal to everyone, but the Range Rover brand has evolved a lot over the last couple of years. It’s a fine demonstration of just what Range Rover’s SV Bespoke team can help create and as we know, customisation is where the big bucks lay.
