Skoda has revealed its future in a very novel fashion, revealing four new all-electric cars as virtual sculptures. All of them will be on sale by 2026, encompassing a new entry-level EV from the brand right up to a load-lugging estate model.
Leading the charge will be a compact electric SUV due as a successor for the petrol and diesel powered Karoq, which is the only sculpture to be presented alongside the name of the production car. Due in 2024, this newcomer will be called Elroq, and will likely make use of the ubiquitous Volkswagen Group MEB platform. At 4.5 metres in length, expect it to rival the next-generation Mini Countryman, also coming with fully-electric power.
Beyond the Elroq, Skoda will dive into the very cheapest end of the EV market with a small SUV priced ‘from 25,000 Euros’. It will be a supermini-sized crossover just over four-metres in length, and is all but certain to make use of the shortened, cheaper version of the MEB Volkswagen has developed for use under the neat-looking ID.2all concept, which will become the ID.2 in production from 2025. The Skoda will, presumably, follow the VW model not long after.
The electric estate market remains thin on the ground, with only the MG 5 and Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo offering up zero emissions load-lugging. This is due to change rapidly – Peugeot and Vauxhall plan to launch electric versions of the 308 SW and Astra Sports Tourer very soon, and in a couple of years, these models will be joined by a Skoda rival. The brand has confirmed an electric estate is coming in 2026.
The fourth and final piece of the jigsaw will be a large electric SUV capable of carrying up to seven people. We’ve already seen a hint of this car, in the form of the Vision 7S concept. It, too, will come three years from now.
Elsewhere, both the Enyaq iV and its coupe-bodied variant will receive mid-life facelifts in 2025, while Skoda has plans for new combustion-engined cars, too; there will be new versions of both the flagship Superb saloon as well as the popular Kodiaq.
