The 1,160bhp Aston Martin Valkyrie has ventured out onto the street

You’ve probably read quite a lot about the Aston Martin Valkyrie, and no doubt you’ve seen video of it testing at Silverstone. But have you seen one on the road? Not until now you haven’t.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie is, at heart, a track-orientated weapon unlike almost anything we’ve seen before. It has a naturally-aspirated V12 engine with 1,000bhp (with a redline of 11,100rpm), a Rimac-developed electric motor with a further 160bhp, is rear-wheel-drive, and has aerodynamics courtesy of Formula 1 design and engineering genius Adrian Newey. However, somehow, despite all of that, it is fully-road legal. And now Aston Martin have started testing it on the public highway, over the lumps and bumps of British B-roads.

It looks absolutely mad, doesn’t it? Just pootling along in front of a Hyundai Kona and a Volkswagen Polo? Seeing it on the road would, if anything, be more exciting than seeing it flying round a track – it looks like it belongs on a circuit, but on the road? It just doesn’t compute.

To all 25 lucky people who’ll be taking delivery of one of these (we’re looking at you, David Coulthard), please, please, please drive it on the road as often as you can. We’ll give you a round of applause as you speed by.
