The Ami Buggy is a microscopic mountain climber

16th December 2021

Citroën has revealed the My Ami Buggy Concept, an exploration of what it would look like if you geared up the tiny Ami microcar to trade city streets for country trails. Isn’t it cute?

Citroën describes it as a “micro-mobility recreational vehicle, for use at the weekend, on holiday by the sea or in the countryside”. So how have they turned a carbon-conscious city-slicking last-mile pod into a wilderness adventurer? Well, take one Citroën Ami, take an off-road prepared Jeep Wrangler, and nick all the latter’s off-roady bits. Minus of course a big Hemi V8 and perhaps that long-travel suspension.

No really, the Ami Buggy, like a Jeep specced for adventuring, loses its doors, gains knobbly tyres, bull bars, spare wheels, light protection and a light bar. Granted, said wheels remain tiny and it’s not exactly lifted like a gnarly American rock crawler would be but it’s certainly sturdier than the standard car.

The designers claim they took inspiration from “the world of construction games, industrial design and fashion accessories,” for “the fun and functional side, ergonomics and aesthetics”. Cheeky style touches include ‘Pilot’ and ‘Co-pilot’ designations on the driver and passenger sides respectively, with 01 and 02 appearing on the respective seats.

On the inside, the seats are squishier with extra foam and are also easier to remove and wash. The Ami Buggy also gets its own luggage, including a ‘bum bag’ that can be stored in a recess in the steering wheel. New for the Ami Buggy are also universal camera holders for capturing your wilderness adventures.

“My Ami Buggy is a proposition in line with the philosophy of Ami Electric, which is not a car,” said Samuel Pericles, Designer of My Ami Buggy.

“The simple, extruded shapes of the camera and smartphone holders, for example, were inspired by the work of designers who created essential and timeless consumer objects in the second half of the last century. My Ami Buggy Concept needed to be functional and simple, in the purest spirit of iconic and contemporary industrial objects.”
