Genesis may have already taken the cake for best-looking concept car of the year. Take note BMW, this is the Genesis X Concept.
It’s an all-electric coupe designed to wear perfectly the new Genesis design language. Job done in our view. Modern as it is in its underpinning, it draws influence, to our eyes, from some of the all-time greats from the history of the coupe. Hints of W215 Mercedes-Benz CL, a bit of Jaguar XJC Coupe in that shoulder line. These are some of the strongest proportions we’ve seen on a new car in a very long time, with distinctive, classy, unfussy Genesis design detailing. Those sabre-like lights, that shield-shaped grille, it’s all good stuff.
On the inside, it leans more into the sportier side rather than the cossetting tourer side of its personality. A driver-focused cockpit design, with Scotch Brown leather for the driver contrasting with ocean wave green blue for the rest of the cabin.
"The Genesis X Concept can be described as the ultimate vision of Athletic Elegance, the inherent design language of Genesis," said SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis’ Global Design.
"The signature Two Lines theme and sustainable luxury will be blueprints for the futuristic designs and state-of-the-art technologies that Genesis seeks to adopt in its future models."
Now the difficult question. Are they going to make it? The market for this sort of car is minimal at best, even for the marques for which a big coupe is a staple. Genesis are looking to make a splash, though. With a march across the Atlantic to UK shores also imminent, anything’s possible. Fingers crossed...
