The Lamborghini SC20 is a one-off roofless track special
This is the Lamborghini SC20, a one-off track-prepared V12-powered barchetta created by Lamborghini's racing division, Squadra Corse.
It joins a growing class of exclusive roof- and windscreen-less specials, albeit with a very Lamborghini spin. While the Ferrari Monza, McLaren Elva and Aston Martin V12 Speedster all trade on a very classical minimalist design, the SC20 goes in the opposite direction. Wings, splitters, louvres and apertures: the SC20 is what happens when you attack a Lamborghini with an axe and a chisel. It’s also far more exclusive, given that there is only one... It’s the second customer-bound one-off Lamborghini has done in recent memory, after the SC18 Alston.
Of course, a one-off though it is, it does take influence from many other Lamborghinis. The marque has been very forthcoming about the car’s influences. These include Gallardo Concept S and Aventador J – both sans roof and windscreen – as well as the Diablo VT Roadster and Veneno Roadster.
We see a bit of SC18 combined with Sian, combined with SVJ out back and the sides use ‘solutions’ from the Essenza SCV12. Meanwhile, up front, it’s not quite like anything we’ve yet seen – a hint to the Aventador successor? We wonder... The colours are Bianco Fu – a unique colour created for the SC20 – with Blu Cepheus livery accenting.
If you’re wondering about how the driver’s face will survive a 770PS naturally-aspirated V12 assault without a windscreen, fear not. That flamboyant bodywork comes with a purpose, in part to produce downforce but also to direct airflow. As a result, the SC20 will “allow comfortable driving even at high speeds”. The wing can be set in three different positions: Low, Medium and High Load.
A good job too, on all counts, given that it’s said the owner is the type to actually use his cars properly. As for price? With these kinds of one-offs, it’s a case of seeing how deep into seven figures your tab gets.
Performance figures aren’t quoted but we can infer similarities with the Aventador SVJ Roadster, given it shares that car’s powertrain. It gets to 62mph in 2.9 seconds and tops out at over 217mph.
