The new Lotus Evija configurator lets you customise the hypercar’s every detail

First owners of the new Lotus Evija are about to be let loose in their 200mph, £2 million machines… in a virtual sense at least. They are being asked to spec up their Evijas – the first all-new Lotus for a dozen years – on a trick new car configurator that Lotus has built specially for the job.

Hethel looked to the world of gaming for this latest step in the Evija story as it moves towards launch, slated for later this year. The touch-screen configurator uses a powerful graphics processor and advanced gaming software to bring to life the Evija so buyers can visualise their colour and trim choices before their car enters production. Lotus says each Evija will be highly personalised.

High-definition photo-realistic images and animations show how the finished car will look from every angle, inside and out, and even how it will appear in different light conditions – the car can be placed in different environments around the world to see how localised sunlight levels affect its appearance.

“We can accommodate customer preferences and requirements from anywhere in the world at the touch of a button,” says Lotus’s Simon Clare.

You can get an idea from the video above which shows the 2,000PS (1,973bhp) all-electric hypercar in new colours of Atomic Red, Solaris Yellow and Carbon Black.

Speccing up your ideal supercar on an online car configurator is the perfect way to spend an hour or so in these difficult times. It’s free and doesn’t break any social distancing rules. Alas Lotus is reserving its ultimate configurator only for owners of the 130 Evijas to be built. Also for owners only are surprise Evija-themed “gifts” that will pop up from time to time while each car is being built. The last gift will be a hand-crafted book of the car’s build.

The Evija is the first new Lotus since the Evora 12 years ago and the first Lotus to be developed under the stewardship of majority shareholder Geely, which also owns Volvo. Hethel says first year production is already spoken for.
