The Ultimae is the Lamborghini Aventador's farewell

The ultimate Aventador is also a more subtle version of the Aventador. It seems to be following the Diablo model of going extreme in the middle era, before a more subtle but no less capable send-off. The Ultimae pairs the Aventador S chassis with a hopped-up SVJ engine. To appearances, it’s a tarted-up Aventador S, until you get to the back where you note SVJ-style exhaust outlets.

Its full name is Aventador Ultimae LP780-4, indicating the heightened 780PS (574kW) power output. That means, in spite of the more subtle looks and reduced aero, this is the most powerful Aventador yet, besting the SVJ by around 10PS (7kW). It all adds up to what is the fastest Aventador at the top end, too. Once it’s cracked 62mph in 2.8 seconds, it’ll go on to a top speed of 221mph. 

Most of the chassis is Aventador S, including the four-wheel-steering, though the 780 has been tuned to send more of that added power to the rear wheels. It’s a tad heavier than the SVJ, though, given the more accommodating and luxurious Aventador S-based cabin, with the added fun of Apple CarPlay. Practical features are important in V12 Lamborghinis.

Just 600 Ultimae Aventadors will be made, split into 350 coupes and 250 roadsters. By the time buyers have picked their poison from the Ad Personam catalogue, we expect each to cost over £400,000.
