The Vanquish Vision Concept is Aston's first everyday mid-engined supercar
This is the new Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept, Aston’s first series production mid-engined supercar, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Taking up the Vanquish name, Aston is in no doubt who the competition is, saying the mid-engined supercar market is “one traditionally defined by Italian supercar makers”. Aston also makes no bones about how the Vanquish Vision Concept isn’t the car in which to chase ultimate lap times, unlike the more powerful Valkyrie, as Miles Nurnberger, Aston’s Director of Design, explained: “It’s a prettier car, and purposely so, as it’s been designed to thrive in a less extreme performance envelope… As a result, it’s less provocative and more classical in its look. Its beauty comes from a shift in emphasis from the aggressive, function driven surfaces of Aston Martin Valkyrie and AM-RB 003 to more flowing and sensuous forms.”
Unfortunately Aston is choosing not to reveal the full technical details at this stage, but the company has said the car will be powered by a V6 engine, a turbocharged hybrid version of which will be found in the AM-RB 003, and the chassis will have a bonded aluminium structure rather than a carbon-fibre monocoque. A V6 might look a little disappointing on paper, but if a company can make a V6 sound superb it’s Aston Martin.
The two men in charge of the Vanquish Vision Concept’s dynamics are Matt Becker and Chris Goodwin. Becker is the chap who’s decided how every new Aston Martin since the old Vantage GT12 should handle, while Goodwin was McLaren’s chief test driver for more than a decade. It would be fair to predict the Vanquish Vision Concept won’t be a dog to drive.
The full production version will be built from 2022 onwards and, thankfully, without a limited production run, unlike the Valkyrie and AM-RB 003. The price? Somewhere around £200,000.
