Skoda has revealed the blueprint for third model in its SUV family: the Vision X. The urban crossover concept is the first hybrid in Skoda’s history to have a CNG- (compressed natural gas) and petrol-powered engine as well as an electric motor.

The brand quotes 89g/km of CO2 from the powertrain, a figure pushed down by the use of CNG which emits about 20 per cent less CO2 than a petrol equivalent.

While it’s an interesting study for Skoda, few people in the UK run cars on CNG and the significance in the concept lies in its status as the smallest and newest member of Skoda’s SUV range, below the Karoq and seven-seat Kodiaq.

The concept can be driven in rear-wheel, front-wheel and four-wheel mode, with the CNG drive supported by two electric motors – a belt-driven starter generator and a separate one on the rear axle which sends 1,000Nm of torque onto the road.

Inside, good space for passengers and luggage are the focus, with the materials reflecting the sort and active lifestyles of the intended users. Digital services such as guides to free parking spaces, offering the car for rental and car-sharing opportunities are all included.
