This Hyundai Grandeur reincarnation is glorious
Hyundai is celebrating 35 years of its stately Grandeur luxury saloon with an all-electric remake. It’s so retro-futuristic cool it could pass for a prop car in a Bladerunner movie.
It’s the latest in a series of retro concepts, following the all-electric Pony we saw last year. New for this Grandeur Heritage Series are the LED pixel-style lighting front and back and a broad imposing chrome grille. Updates aside, it very much retains that quintessentially ‘80s ruler-drawn side profile.
On the inside, there’s very little ‘80s layover to be found. There’s an all-new infotainment and instrument cluster combo in the style of that in the Ioniq 5, in addition to a vertical screen that controls the ‘Concert Hall’ sound system. It even has a built-in piano app.
New too are the very Cyberpunk seats and steering wheel. It’s all presented in a very ‘80s burgundy colour with a nice wood treatment throughout to boot.
As for what’s powering it? Little is divulged beyond that it’s electric, meaning it’s likely borrowing much of the E-GMP 800-volt architecture from the Ioniq 5.
The more these retro-futuristic heritage series concepts come out, the more we want them. This thing is a perfect blend of old and new by our reckoning. The previous Pony heritage series model seemed to vaguely coincide with the reveal of Hyundai’s modern hatch, the Ioniq 5. Could the Grandeur signal the imminent arrival of a modern Ioniq-badged successor? Well, with the Seven concept on its way to preview a higher-end model, albeit as an SUV, watch this space…
