What company would you imagine to be the last domino to fall on the way to wholesale car market electrification? Surely it’d be TVR? Well, even the burly brutes once from Blackpool are planning a battery-powered future beyond the burbling V8 Griffith, which isn’t due for production until 2023, six years on from its Goodwood Revival 2017 reveal.
Ever the optimists, head honcho Les Edgar and TVR have partnered with Ensorcia Metals Corporation, a supplier of green lithium with a patented brine-based extraction process that’s claimed to be both highly efficient and clean, as future powertrain work is considered alongside development of the future TVR product lineup.
In a very un TVR-like statement, Edgar said: “It has been clear for some time that EV has to be part of our future.
“We are thoroughly excited to be partnering with Enscorcia. Having access to advanced EV tech including supplies of green lithium via the leading, environmentally considerate process, is a hugely important element in ensuring that TVR will become a sustainable, net-zero business.”
TVR and sustainable net-zero business aren’t things we’d expected to be seeing in the same sentence today.
Fear not, however. You’re not hallucinating that distant V8 gargle you can hear. Ensorcia will also be working on the ‘production development’ of the V8 Griffith as the slow march towards its 2023 production start date continues.
