As if there weren’t enough emotion-targetting adverts over the festive period, Ford has attempted to pull on our heartstrings with a farewell to the Fiesta. At least this advert has a car in it and not a cartoon polar bear who lost the spirit of Christmas when his home melted away, then got it back when he bought a £19.99 Pavlova from John Lewis.
My family did have a 1994 Ford Fiesta with a manual choke and I do have many memories buried with it as I saw being crushed due to the insurance repairs being too much, so I am somewhat invested in Ford’s attempts to melt my heart. They’ve bid farewell with a children’s bedtime story which I won’t spoil for you (the Fiesta still dies). I’m usually unaffected by these corporate attempts to buy into the brand, but I have to admit I was a little bit moved. Maybe there are more memories packed into these metal boxes on wheels than we realize. As things get more autonomous, will we one day completely lose our attachment to them? Who knows. Either way, watch the farewell to the Fiesta advert and let us know what your first emotion is when thinking of your first car.
