With the Aston Martin Valkyrie, GMA T.50 and Pagani Huayra R taking centre stage in terms of V12 noise in recent years, it’s easy to forget some of the more recent past masters of mechanical music. One such example is the Apollo IE, with its insectoid bodywork and howling V12. It never was confirmed whether this mill was a borrowed and developed Ferrari lump, but by god does it still sound the absolute business.
We can establish as much with a few on-board laps around Monza, as the track-honed hypercar is absolutely sent around the iconic Italian circuit. Developed in part by HWA (of CLK GTR fame and most recently, the engine in the Huayra R), the IE is a properly sorted thing. You’d think being a company to come out of nowhere, forged from the ashes of Gumpert, it might be vapourware. How wrong an assumption that’d be. We loved hearing it at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard a few years back and we love hearing it here. What a thing.
