There isn’t long left until we say goodbye to the Audi R8, but the German manufacturer seems determined to let it’s spectacular V10 supercar go out in a blaze of glory. That’s right, we finally have a rear-wheel-drive version.
This leaves us in something a quandary, though. Because this new R8 provides us with plenty of the enjoyment we feel previous Quattro versions have lacked, there's no drive in the front wheels, which has given the steering a heightened sense of sharpness. But it’s less powerful and less capable in wet conditions. It takes away the comfort and security that comes with all-wheel-drive, and suddenly, you have to have your wits about you when you press that oh-so-loud peddle to the floor.
But that is exactly what makes the R8 RWD so special. It makes you think, and that all adds to the spectacle of a car with a naturally-aspirated V10 that still sounds absolutely fantastic.
