If ever there was a video to illustrate ‘it’s not what you’ve got, it’s what you do with it’, this is it. A 420PS (309kW) Cayman GT4 should not be able to keep up with a 750PS (552kW) Lamborghini Aventador SV. And yet, somehow, it does. This is a fun ride.
Now I want to make it clear that I am not belittling the SV’s driver – anyone who gets out in these cars and uses them should be given a pat on the back. But it’s interesting to be able to see the difference between driving quickly and being quick. The Cayman’s driver clearly knows the track and knows his car, further proof that if you’re looking to set a faster lap time on a track day it’s better to learn how to be faster than simply get a faster car.
As an aside, this onboard is a comical reminder of just how tall the GT4’s gearing is. Seriously, 76mph approaching the top of second gear is silly. He only engages fifth gear on two occasions on the 12.94-mile lap.
Anyway, which would you rather take for a lap? The lightweight and less scary flat-six GT4, or the big, shouty V12 SV?
