Driving your first Ferrari is a very personal experience. It’s the same as driving your first supercar (if the two firsts don’t collide) or getting into your very first car. There’s just something about the mystique of the brand that means a frisson of excitement is guaranteed the moment you’re handed a key with a Prancing Horse on it. For me that first wasn’t just a Ferrari, it was a V12 Ferrari and one with the engine at the front. It was the 812 GTS.
The Ferrari 812 GTS is, if you couldn’t work it out, a sibling of the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the big front-engined V12 that straddles the line between supercar and GT in the Ferrari range. The difference, other than some styling tweaks for mechanical purposes, is that the GTS is a convertible.
We had only a little time with the Ferrari 812 GTS, a matter of hours on a cold October morning, so we decided to film with the car, and then talk about it later, hence the different format to this video. We hope you enjoy it, as rather than being so much of a straight car review, it tries to get across the emotion of the experience.
