We’re pretty familiar with fast cars here at GRR. Formula 1 racers, Ferraris and even flat out dragsters have graced the estate.
But we’ve never quite seen anything like this. It’s a Toyota MR2, but not as you know it.
Various modifications including a 1zz crank (making it a 2.0-litre) and an upgraded motor allow the diminutive roadster to reach speeds usually far out of reach. Add wide aero arches, a low splitter and a huge wing, and you have yourself a veritable track weapon.
Flat out around the 2km Tsukuba Circuit, it flies past the other cars on track, setting a blistering time of a little over a minute – just 16 seconds off the official lap record of 44.008 seconds, set by Kamui Kobayashi in a Dallara SF14.
