We wondered when McLaren might consider refreshing its range of sportscars, and the arrival of the McLaren Artura symbolises what we hope will be a bold and adventurous next step for the company. It’s more than a decade since McLaren Automotive relaunched with the MP4-12C, and since then, while power figures have slowly inflated and the engineering has been honed over time with updates and spin-off iterations, it feels like the likes of the 570S and 720S have been around for quite a while.
The early signs are intriguing. The move to a plug-in hybrid V6 powertrain is the obvious change, but what else has McLaren done to set the Artura, a supposed new dawn for the company, apart from what has come before?
