About 20 years ago it was Porsche that started the sporty SUV revolution. Having only ever built sportscars, it decided to build the Cayenne, and in doing so not only saved the company but kickstarted ever other manufacturer into building an SUV for every niche imaginable. So why is Porsche now building an estate car?
This is the new Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. GTS means it’s fast but not Space Shuttle fast like the Turbo S, and Sport Turismo means it’s the wagon but one that sits lower than the Cross Turismo. And it’s a perplexing vehicle – not because of its capabilities, but because Porsche has spent the last two decades making SUVs and it is now building an estate when most other companies are making fewer and fewer. Through what crystal ball is Porsche looking? Could the GTS Sport Turismo be another prophetic road car triumph and we don’t even know it yet?
