Video: The LaFerrari’s V12 howl is still spine-tingling
If you’re anything like us you’ll be frustrated when a near delivery-mileage Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 or Porsche 918 Spyder comes up for sale. ‘Why didn’t you drive it?’ we scream internally. Thankfully there are people who do get out and drive these machines we all love. And thankfully again, some stick GoPros by their car’s exhaust when they do for our aural enjoyment.
This, as you will have probably guessed from the red paintwork, is a Ferrari, specifically a LaFerrari, one of the 499 that were built between 2013 and 2018. Hybrid supercars are just rolling over into the norm, and yet the LaFerrari, along with the P1 and 918 Spyder, were throwing down monstrous power outputs from hybrid powertrains nearly a decade ago.
The LaFerrari’s stats are still mind-blowing. Its 6.3-litre V12, combined with an electric motor, delivered 963PS (708kW) to the rear wheels only via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox. The car would fly from 0-62mph in less than three seconds, to 100mph in less than seven and to 186mph in 15 seconds. The top speed? A whopping 217mph.
The noise it made, as you’ll hear on this hillclimb in Hemberg, Switzerland, is stupendous. To the owner, whoever you are, we thank you for taking your car out into the real world.
