Have you got nine minutes to spare? Well, you should spend them listening to the 'new' Lancia Stratos flying up and down some European roads and screaming on a dyno.
This Lancia Stratos is not a recent creation. In fact it was 2010 when the very first pictures of the car appeared online. But that was a one-off proof of concept, a car designed to convince potential buyers a new Stratos wouldn’t just look cool but, with Ferrari backing, would drive well too. Ferrari decided to pull its support, however, along with its associated suppliers, so the people behind the project went quiet… Until 2018, when Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) announced they were going to build 25 cars. Ferrari? Who needs it.
MAT take a Ferrari F430 chassis, cut out 20cm from the middle, up the 4.3-litre V8 to 540PS (397kW) and drape a gorgeous carbon-fibre body over the top. The result is a stunning modern interpretation of the Stratos with the firepower to match. Oh, and did we mention you can have an open-gate six-speed manual gearbox? Delicious.
