Video: Watch David Coulthard and Tiff Needell race vans around Goodwood

What happens when you combine David Coulthard, Tiff Needell and a Volkswagen Caddy? It’s not a trick question, but rather the subject of a particularly hilarious episode of Fifth Gear, first seen all the way back in 2009.

Coulthard and Needell meet at our very own Goodwood Motor Circuit, but despite their usual penchant for fast cars and racetracks, the pair find themselves slaloming the 142PS 2.0-litre turbo-diesel van around the paddock, with varying levels of success. Ever the professional, Coulthard even attempts to ‘visualise the track’…

After the dizzying display, the pair head for more familiar territory – the circuit itself, where they each take a turn in the Volkswagen Cup race Caddy, which boasts 284PS and slick tyres. And despite its diesel engine, front-wheel-drive and hardly-aerodynamic body, the duo achieve somewhat decent flying laps…
