Buying a new car with monthly payments has come to the world of collectors’ cars thanks to Bonhams and car finance company JBR Capital.
December will see the doors to Bonhams’ Bond Street Sale open, at which Bonhams and JBR Capital can offer auction buyers pre-approved finance to grab the car of their dreams. The process? A very simple one, actually. All you need to do is pay a deposit, keep on track with the monthly payments and then splash out with a final balloon payment to own the car outright – all of which will be familiar to millions of new-car buyers. The difference here, though, is that the cars in question are arguably much more interesting…
One of the most tempting cars in the Bond Street Sale is a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7-Litre 'Lightweight', one of only 200 built and from the collection of Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay.
With pre-approved finance of £800,000 (the auction estimate for the 911 is £750-850,000) this exquisite machine could be yours for a 20 per cent deposit of £160,000 and then 48 monthly payments £8,481.18 followed by a final balloon payment of £400,000, according to JBR Capital’s figures. The representative APR is 7.9 per cent.
The tie-up between Bonhams and JBR Capital was trialled at the Bonhams Revival sale at Goodwood in September, but the Bond Street sale in London on 7th December is the first time the arrangement has gone live.
“At JBR Capital we pride ourselves on the personal nature of our service, and have recently reached the key milestone of £500 million in funding since the company was founded just five years ago,” said Darren Selig, JBR Capital executive chairman.
“We look forward to offering a range of finance solutions to include acquisition of vehicles, restoration finance and equity release to both new and existing clients at the Bond Street Sale and selected Bonhams motor car sales in 2020.”
As well as the delectable Porsche Jay Kay is selling other cars from his collection. There’s a 895-mile 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF Berlinetta with an estimate of £670-740,000 and a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT that’s covered just 2400 miles, estimated to sell for £650-750,000.
