From Goodwood to the Cheltenham Festival

Multi-talented local trainer, Gary Moore, is familiar with winners at both Cheltenham and Goodwood, however his horses don’t typically tend to run at both tracks. Nevertheless, this year he sends top Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle hope Goshen to the Festival, only eighteen months after the gelding started his career at our South Downs track.

He finished only ninth here on his mile-and-a-furlong debut in October 2018, but has racked up an unbeaten streak of six since 2019. Four of those have been this season over hurdles, winning by huge distances at Nottingham, Fontwell, Sandown and Ascot. 

In one of those runs, he beat The Pink’n by 46 lengths, an incredible turnaround given The Pink’n was the victor of his Goodwood debut. He beat him by just 10 ½ lengths that day.

Although it is not common to have horses run at two top tracks in different disciplines, it has been done before, with a Cheltenham hero like Stayers’ Hurdle runner-up Lil Rockerfeller coming to mind. He won the longest race at Glorious Goodwood, the Goodwood Handicap, in 2018. He tried to double up at the last Qatar Goodwood Festival, but he could only finish sixth.
