Stop what you're doing. The outright Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard Hill record has just been broken by Max Chilton in his McMurtry Spéirling fan car.
The time? 39.08 seconds, which beats Nick Heidfeld's previous Timed Shootout record of 41.6 seconds which has stood since the 1999 Festival of Speed. It's also quicker than the 39.9-second run by Romain Dumas in the Volkswagen ID.R in practice for the 2019 Shootout.
Just watch the run. This car is absolutely nuts. With the sound of the fan spinning up the car disappears off the line akin to a rocket ship, and that likeness continues on all the way up the Hill. Nothing has ever gone around Molecomb at such effortless speed, and its instant acceleration in a straight line is phenomenal.
What a machine, and what a run from Max Chilton. Congratulations!
