X Games legend Travis Pastrana, who took over the legendary Gymkhana mantle from Ken Block last year, will be taking on the Shootout in his 870PS Subaru Impreza Gymkhana car at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in July.
Perhaps one of the world’s greatest current stunt and rally drivers, Pastrana is best known for his gold medal- and championship-winning exploits in supercross, motocross and freestyle motocross. Pastrana also has extensive experience in RallyCross, sportscars, NASCAR, monster trucks and more. If it’s fast, loud and can be raced, chances are Pastrana has taken a crack at it.
Pastrana is also the grandmaster of the Nitro Circus ‘action sport collective’, first founded in 2003. It serves as a world stage competitive tentpole for all kinds of extreme wheeled sports, motorised or otherwise, from BMX, mountain bikes and skateboarding, to motocross, scooters and even wheelchair events.
What will he be driving? A 2020 Subaru WRX STI that’s a far cry from the kind of STI you might find in showrooms. This Subaru Motorsports USA-built special is a Pastrana’s Gymkhana 2020 takeover weapon, with over 870PS, a six-speed sequential gearbox, custom carbon bodywork and much more. Box-arched, be-winged and liveried up, this car bears more of a resemblance to the Group 5 special production sportscar monsters of the 1970s than a dealer-bought Impreza.
Travis Pastrana will be driving flat-out in this monster of a Subaru at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed Shootout, which will be this car’s official competition debut. If you want a bit of a preview of what this thing can do in Travis’s hands, there’s a handy Gymkhana takeover video for your enjoyment and disbelief. We’ll see you July 8-11...
