While we celebrate the all-time greats from the history of motor racing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, we also look at the present and the future of racing. From the endurance racers of the very near future, to the all-electric powertrains that could be whining around circuits in years to come. This is the future of racing in full view.
We had a couple of very important debuts, one a hybrid and one all-electric. The 2022 Festival hosted our first look at the third-generation Formula E car in action, as driven by Goodwood great Nick Heidfeld. We also had the world debut and reveal of the Porsche 963, the marque’s LMDh Le Mans and Daytona contender, which it will also be selling to customers. That also makes it the very first LMDh car to run in public. We had hydrogen power upping the ante too, with the H24 sports prototype showing a new turn of speed versus last year. Then of course, there’s our Hill record-breaker, the McMurtry Spéirling, which Max Chilton pushed to an incredible Timed Shootout victory. What’s your favourite slice of the future of motorsport from the 2022 Festival of Speed?
