With a grid absolutely rammed with motorsport legends including Tom Kristensen, Dario Franchitti, Jimmie Johnson, Emanuele Pirro and even Christian Horner, there was never any doubt that this field of cars was going to be put well and truly through its paces.
Having revelled in the wet conditions during Official Practice on Friday, the Minis and Alfa Romeos sought to make the most of their advantageous grid positions in the early going, clearly desperate to try and keep the big-engined brutes behind them. Their efforts would ultimately prove fruitless, but that wasn’t the end of the drama.
We had Romain Dumas, freshly travelled from the Nürburgring, starting from the back of the grid in the hugely powerful Ford Galaxie. His progress through the field was always likely to be momentous, but just how so we’d have to wait and see.
There were plenty of dramatic moments throughout the 25-minute race, but we won’t spoil them all for you. You’ll just have to watch the race and see for yourself. Just one hint if we may… don’t walk away before the end.
