What do you choose for victory in the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul – big power or nimble handling? Whichever, it’s likely you’ll be embroiled in a race-long nip and tuck battle to the flag.
Romain Dumas set off in the Ford Thunderbird with the Austin A90 of Andre Lotterer in pursuit. And collision between two Jaguars and two Austin A40s mixed things up, with Jaguar of Stuart Graham coming out worse: he was forced to retire with bodywork rubbing on a tyre.
Further down the field, more power versus handling battles were being played out. The greater straight-line speed of Anthony Reid’s Jaguar got the better of Emanuele Pirro’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It was a similar story up front: the easy pace of Dumas in the Thunderbird got him across the line ahead of Andrew Jordan’s A40 after he had a slide across the grass while carving through traffic. The good news? There's another St. Mary's Trophy race on Sunday!
