Undoubtedly one of the most entertaining races at the Goodwood Revival, the St. Mary’s Trophy presented by Motul also attracts a host of big names because, well, it’s as much fun for the drivers as the spectators. The race alternates between ‘50s and ‘60s saloon cars from year to year and in 2021 it was the turn of the older machines. This meant a gigantic Ford Thunderbird – which made the Mk1 Jaguars look petite – being swarmed by tiny Austin A40s and delicate Alfa Romeo Giuliettas.
The St. Mary’s is also a two-parter with the first on Saturday and the decider on Sunday and each half of the driver pairings take a turn. The aggregate of the two races decides the final standings which means victory is never assured so the racing is fierce with no quarter given.
