Heading sideways at speed, tyres and diffs screaming usually means something might have gone wrong at Goodwood. But at Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard, it was entire point of our first ever Driftkhana.
Held over two parts, the Driftkhana was both a timed and judged event with drivers earning points for their accuracy and driving style which in turn reduced their overall time. The highlight was provided by three-time Formula Drift champion James Deane in his BMW E92 M3 with an inch perfect display of smoking tyred car control.
Goodwood favourite Steve ‘Baggsy’ Bagioni ran him close in his mighty Nissan GT-R which certainly was the biggest smoke machine of the day. Unexpected star of the event was Rhys Yates in his Ford Fiesta R5 who showed that Scandinavian flicks and left foot braking skills transfer very well to the world of drifting. We can’t wait to see more at future Goodwood events.
