The full provisional timetable for the 79th Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport has been revealed, with two incredible days filled with Formula 1, Le Mans racers, pre-war legends and touring car heroes.
As usual for the revived Members’ Meetings Saturday will be largely filled with practice sessions, setting the grid for Sunday’s action, as well as three races and the first runnings of both our 79MM demos.
Kicking the weekend off at 10:00 on the Saturday will be practice for the Gerry Marshall Trophy touring cars before we switch to bikes at 10:45 with Hailwood Trophy practice, which also featured the Sheene Trophy.
From then until 13:30 practice sessions will continue until our first on track demonstration sees some of the best-sounding F1 cars of all time take to the track celebrating the mighty V10 era of F1.
After the F1 demo there will be two more practice sessions, for the GT cars of the Graham Hill Trophy and the mighty Can-Am cars of the Surtees Trophy, before our first race of the weekend – a seven-lap sprint for the bikes of the Hailwood Trophy at 15:30.
At 16:05 the traditional big race of the Members’ Meetings will kick off the car racing, as the Gerry Marshall Trophy kicks off a two-driver, 45-minute race for Group 1 touring cars. This always incredible fight has moved slightly earlier in the day than previously as the Robert Brooks Trophy will run into dusk, with stunning sportscars racing as the sun begins to set. Two more practice sessions will fill the gap between the Gerry Marshall Trophy and Robert Brooks Trophy, both for pre-war racers. Also between the two races is the first tandem drift demo in the Motor Circuit's history at 17:30.
The final action of day one will be the demonstration for Porsche 956 and 962 sportscars at 19:45. No doubt conjuring memories of evenings at La Sarthe these Group C legends will fly around Goodwood as the sun sets, with the final minutes of running set to take place in stunning darkness. Just to add to the atmosphere, in the background the 79MM party will have already gotten underway.
As if Saturday’s action wasn’t brilliant enough Sunday features a full day of racing and demos, kicked off by our final practice session of the weekend, for the Peter Collins Trophy sportscars at 09:00.
The rest of the weekend’s racing will take place across Sunday. Highlights include the all A-series engined race for the Weslake Cup at 09:40. These cars may be small, but the racing is big.
The Hailwood Trophy’s second race for bikes takes place at 10:20 and the Sopwith Cup, featuring some of the less celebrated, but equally brilliant, touring cars of the 1950s will race at 11:00.
The daytime run for our Porsche 956 and 962 Group C cars will take place at 12:15 for 15 minutes, before the big GT race of the day – the 45-minute, two-driver, Graham Hill Trophy.
The final F1 demo of the weekend take place at 14:30 and the first ever A.F.P. Fane Trophy – a brilliant race for chain-driven Frazer Nashes, will take place at 15:55.
Closing 79MM the last race of an incredible weekend will be the always manic Gerry Marshall Sprint reversed-grid race for our Group 1 saloons before prize giving at 19:00.
