While we try to keep the racing as straight and true as possible here at Goodwood, things can get a bit lairy in close proximity racing. As battles intensify, doors clang and the limits of grip are pushed, with the predictable result of some fairly wild moments. We captured them all from the 81st Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport weekend.
Adding to the action this weekend for the first time was the Sidecar shootout, which features some of the craziest machines and riders we’ve yet seen, with particular emphasis on the passengers whose job is to hold on and keep the thing on the ground. Nevertheless, on the limits of grip chasing the fastest times, they really got out of shape, cocking the outside wheel a few times and even lifting up over bumps.
The grass tempted the Derek Bell Cup Formula 3 cars as they had a moment off in the weeds, as did the Mustangs of the Ken Miles Cup presented by LGT Management and indeed, some of the Surtees Trophy mid-engined monsters.
The biggest craziest moment we saw this weekend? The incredible Mini save in the Gordon Spice Sprint as he ran the length of the locksteps on the way down into St Mary’s. All these and many more pack out our list of the 13 wildest moments from 81MM.
