If it wasn’t for the monumental spanner thrown by COVID-19, around about now we’d be packing our trunks (not the swimming kind) and preparing to cross the channel for the Le Mans Classic.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a whole year before we’ll see any vintage action on the historic circuit, and so we’re making do with onboards from previous races.
And one such clip hails from 2018, and allows us to climb aboard Antoine Vandromme’s 1981 Porsche 935, competing in Grid 6, for cars dating from 1972-’81. With a near-empty track ahead of him he hammers around the 8.5-mile circuit, occasionally closing on or being overtaking by opponents (there’s a lovely Ferrari 512 BB LM at about 1:40).
The Porsche’s pace is hardly surprising, given that in period it won more than 150 races, including the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours, plus six victories at both the Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours.
Welcome to Goodwood Elevenses, a mid-morning helping of motoring-related amusement to help break up your day. Watch the last video: This Trabant 601 RS racer is incredibly slow, but we love it
