A Group C racing car is perhaps best shown off at its spiritual home: Le Mans. Long straights and fast corners are exactly what these fuel-limited speedsters were built for.
If you don’t happen to have access to the Circuit de la Sarthe, but are in charge of a Group C car, perhaps Monza is the next best thing. This, after all, is a circuit that offers big long straights and some challenging, fast corners.
That’s exactly what we have here. The Monza Historic may not have been held this year, but in previous years this Peter Auto event has tended to involve a race for Group C legends. And with this video we can join Ralf Kelleners inside his Porsche 962 for something truly evocative – a battle with a Sauber C11.
The sound of the Porsche’s flat-six would be enough, but this is a proper battle, with the 962 sitting behind the C11 for lap after lap, edging closer and closer trying to find a pass. Without ruining the video, we can tell you there are overtakes, but we won’t say which car ends up at the front.
