Ford Galaxies are great. Not the modern day MPV Galaxys, but the old-school, rumbling V8 Galaxies. We see them here most years at the Revival and Members’ Meeting, thundering around the Goodwood Motor Circuit, and today we’re taking some reassurance from the fact that their glorious V8 tune can be heard elsewhere in the world too, like on a fast, flowing Swiss mountain pass.
At idle this Galaxie’s engine timing makes it sound like a steam train, at low speeds it sound happier but still very much in need of a proper thrashing, and once it really gets going it drops a soundtrack that risks starting a landslide. Yes, a Fiesta ST would likely be quicker on these stunning alpine roads, but there’s no substitute for the joy a 7.0-litre V8 brings.
