Spring has sprung and usually at this time of year we’re just digging in to the start of the motorsport season. By now we should be one race in to the premier class of motorcycle racing, MotoGP, and about to be spoiled with an epic race in Thailand.
However, as you may have heard, Coronavirus has cancelled motorsport - at least for the time being. So instead of readying our tellies for an Asian spectacular, we’ve instead headed online, in search of the best video from previous Thai GPs. And we think we’ve found it...
From the first ever Thai GP, held at the Buriram International Circuit in 2018, this video shows exactly what makes motorcycle racing so thrilling – just how close the riders can get to one another.
At the end of this ‘last lap battle’ combination, we not only see the fourth tightest finish among the first 15 riders in MotoGP history, but the top trio manage to finish within 0.27 seconds of one another.
That’s the podium covered by three tenths of a second, an incredible feat achieved by Honda’s Marc Marquez, Ducati’s Andrea Dovisioso and Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales.
What’s more impressive is that this was only the fifth tightest MotoGP podium finish, meaning four others had an even smaller gap... Can you name them?
