Have you ever walked onto a station platform just as a train pulls up? Or needed to call for a taxi, when one just happens to stop nearby? Well now imagine you’re Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the goalkeeper for Indian football team Bengaluru, on your way through Jordan to the Dead Sea. Mechanical disaster strikes, leaving you stranded at the side of the road, and then all of a sudden Middle East drift champion Ahmad Daham appears to offer you a lift – or a drift, if you will? What are the chances?
Red Bull has made some rather good videos over the years. In 2011 it sent David Coulthard in a Red Bull Formula 1 show car to drive the Circuit of the Americas, Texas, before the track had even been built. In 2018 we saw Welsh WRC driver Elfyn Evans take a less than conventional route to the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. And in 2019, we were treated to a duel between Eduard Nikolaev’s Kamaz Dakar truck and Mad Mike’s Lamborghini Huracan drift car for the last space at the Festival Ball. This video is another belter.
A melange of close up cockpit action shots and blisteringly fast fly bys, through the sandbowl of Wadi Rum and along Jordan’s incredible Namala Road. The ride comes to an end at the Dead Sea, where Daham deposits the frightened footballer before drifting off into the distance. Perhaps to offer another taxi ride?
