There is still a fair amount of skepticism behind where EVs fit into the motorsport world. It will certainly take some time for the traditional fossil fuel burning fans to come to terms with the new sound, or lack thereof, in an electric competition car.
One of the brands at the forefront of the challenge to get fans excited about EVs in general is Ford. It dived headfirst into the electric world by using its most iconic models as the flagship – the Mustang.
As an example of how Ford is trying to pump up the excitement, it's released this part Faroe Islands tourism advert, part Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 advert and part human and machine bromance story. It’s certainly an… interesting concept. Basically, think Gymkhana with Kitt from Knight Rider.
It does take a couple of minutes to get to what the all-electric Mustang’s best impression of a rally car looks like, but when that moment finally comes, you have to say it’s certainly entertaining.
When Vaughn Gittin jr. is finally given free rein to explore the incredibly beautiful Faroe Islands and show what the car can really do, you can’t help but be impressed. You may have to battle through some rather odd antics with a sheep and a puffin (don’t worry, they’re safe to watch at work), but at the end of the video you’ll most likely have a more optimistic view of the future of motorsport. If not, at the very least you’ll be booking the next flight to the Faroe Islands.
