Circuit Zandvoort is about to return to the Formula 1 calendar and, after watching this action, we couldn’t be more excited.
Two-and-a-half miles and 14 turns of rolling Dutch tarmac, set against the scenic backdrop of the North Sea. Weather worries aside, it looks set to be an excellent addition to the 2020 calendar.
And so we’ve been scrolling back through the online archives (read: YouTube binging) as we prepare for the new, fifth round, on May 3rd.
One of the videos we stumbled upon is this onboard, shared more than four years ago. Join this practised pilot as he flies around the circuit in a Lotus Exige GT race car during a Dutch Supercar Challenge race.
With average lap time of 1:46 – just 30 seconds off the record – the driver wrestles the Lotus around the circuit, the Exige screaming with every change of its sequential box (shouldn't more cars have sequential shifters?). While the pace shown around the full circuit is impressive, it's his round-the-outside overtake into the first corner that will have you holding your breath. Here's hoping for a similar battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen come May...
