Mark Webber may not have won a Formula 1 World Championship, but on his day he was one of the quickest drivers on the grid. He beat the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, all of whom know how to get the absolute maximum from a car. So it should come as no surprise to see Mark able to precisely and confidently destroy Estoril in the new Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Or to see his feet dance across the pedals.
While Mark hasn’t raced competitively since 2016, when he drove the Porsche 919 Hybrid in the World Endurance Championship, he’s kept himself busy driving various cars for films for Channel 4’s coverage of Formula 1 and all manner of Porsches at tracks across the world. You might have spotted him at the 77th Members’ Meeting last year driving a Porsche 917, for example.
Mark’s latest on-track escapade was with the new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, the car that kind of proves Porsche isn’t entirely convinced by four-cylinder boxer engines when it comes to having fun… And my word does Mark make driving fast look effortless. His footwork isn’t quite as mental as that of Ayrton Senna in that NSX heel-and-toe video, but it’s still mighty impressive.
