If the mission in sim racing, or indeed any car game, is as much immersion as possible, getting as close to the machines we love as we can without having to actually pay for and run them, then VR is surely the way forward. While proliferating on PC, the main games consoles have been slow on the uptake due to expensive and complicated hardware requirements. With the latest PS VR2 however, things are moving in the right direction.
See, PS5 players with PS VR2 now have the power to immerse themselves in Gran Turismo 7, thanks to the new update. As we can see here, the thrills (and terrors) of the Nürburgring are there to be enveloped in. Ride on board as this player races a hyper hybrid Ferrari FXXK track car around the green hell, in near perfect virtual reality. In rare moments where laser focus on the next corner or overtake isn’t required, we see our driver bob his head and look around the cabin of the ultra-exclusive Ferrari. The field of view is affected by what happens in-game too, with his virtual head bobbing over the ’Ring’s various lumps, bumps and undulations. We simply must have a go on one of these…
